March 2nd is Disability Awareness Day at the Mississippi Capitol

We hope to see all of you at Disability Awareness Day at the Capitol on March 2, 2023, from 8 a.m. to noon. Families as Allies is honored to be a member of the Mississippi Coalition for Citizens with Disabilities, and we appreciate the Coalition hosting this event. Make sure to both stop by the Coalition’s table and go see your legislators.

You can attend the Bureau of Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities (BIDD) Advisory Council at 10 a.m. in Room 407 (here is the zoom link if you wish to attend the council meeting virtually). We encourage you to take advantage of being at the Capitol and attend a Senate committee meeting or watch the House in session while there. You can also visit the Department of Mental Health’s Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities Day.

Mental Health and Wellness Day at the Capitol will be held online Tuesday, March 7, from 10 to 11 a.m. The program will focus on advances and opportunities in peer support and how we can all work together to support it. Hosts include NAMI Mississippi, the Mental Health Association of South Mississippi, the Mississippi Department of Mental Health, Families As Allies, and the Association of Mississippi Peer Support Specialists (AMPSS).

You must RSVP to receive an email with the video conference link. For more information, call 601-899-9058 or email stateoffice@namims.org.
