Vanessa Burkett and Miah Ford, social work students from Jackson State University, finished their semester-long internships with Families as Allies this week. At the start of the semester, they jumped in to learn how to support families dealing with tough issues, especially in the education system. Both Vanessa and Miah supported families, researched solutions, spent time at the Capitol and learned about system-level issues in the state.
We wish Vanessa and Miah the very best. They will graduate on May 4. Both plan to become licensed at the bachelor’s level, work for some time and then return to get their master’s degrees in social work.
We ask interns on their last day to write down what they thought of their internships if they want to share. We hope you enjoy reading Vanessa’s and Miah’s thoughtful remarks as much as we did.
