Don’t forget! During the COVID emergency, the federal government paused Medicaid eligibility redeterminations for three years. In the spring of 2023, the federal government told states to start doing redeterminations again. “Redetermination” means that the Mississippi Division of Medicaid is checking over the next year to see if people who are currently on Medicaid are still eligible for Medicaid.
Medicaid will examine its electronic records first and try to renew you using that information. If that doesn’t work, Medicaid will mail you a notice in regular postal mail (NOT email) and work with you to determine your eligibility.
REMEMBER:
- Make sure the Division of Medicaid has your correct mailing address. Many people do not live in the same place they did three years ago.
- Check your postal mail. Do not throw away anything that could be from the Division of Medicaid, even if it looks like junk mail to you.
- Remember that even if the adults in your household are not eligible for Medicaid, the children in your household may be.
We encourage you to contact the Division of Medicaid with questions or issues directly. Families as Allies is a Coverage Champion. We are also happy to help with questions and support you with forms. You can call us at 601-355-0915 or email us at info@faams.org. We especially want to hear if anyone loses coverage because they did not know redeterminations had started again. We want to ensure anyone in that situation gets the support and information they need to be re-assessed for eligibility.
You can track monthly eligibility redeterminations on the Mississippi Division of Medicaid website.
