March 13, 2021 @ 9:00 am - 1:00 pm CST

Social Justice Symposium

Counselors for Social Justice at Mississippi State University

Inaugural Social Justice Symposium

The 2021 Social Justice Symposium aims to create a safe, interactive educational experience that promotes self-reflection that leads to critical analysis of social justice concerns and a deeper understanding of the advocacy mandates in helping professions. The symposium is a virtual event, occurring over two days – Friday, March 12th, from 9 A.M. to 1:00 P.M. and Saturday, March 13th, 9 A.M. to 2:00 P.M.

The symposium provides education through didactic presentations led by experts in social justice and advocacy and culminates with a panel discussion that allows participants to engage and ask questions directly. Further, to facilitate continued education and information sharing, participants are provided access to media curated by Counselors for Social Justice at Mississippi State University student members. Resources include asynchronous presentations, book recommendations, movies, and video clips that help to inform and transfer abstract constructs of power, privilege, disenfranchisement, and systemic injustice into tangible issues in which participants are encouraged to engage.

For further information regarding the symposium, please contact the symposium chair, Chiquita Long Holmes, via email at CSL19@msstate.edu.
