September is National Suicide Prevention Awareness Month. National Suicide Prevention Week is September 6 – 12, 2020 and World Suicide Prevention Day is on the 10th. We are sharing some national and local resources with you.
The Jason Foundation has a number of suicide prevention resources for young people, their families, and others working with them. You can download the Jason Foundation’s 2020 Suicide Prevention Informational Packet here.
The National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) has a number of suicide prevention resources as well. We especially encourage you to note these from NAMI’s website:
- The National Suicide Prevention Lifeline (@800273TALK) offers free, confidential crisis counseling 24/7/365 – and you don’t have to be in crisis to call. #SPM20 #NotAlone
- @CrisisTextLine is free 24/7 mental health support at your fingertips. Text “NAMI” to 741741 for help. #SPM20 #NotAlone
- Crisis episodes related to mental illness can be incredibly difficult. To help navigate through them, NAMI created this downloadable guide available in English and Spanish. #SPM20 #NotAlone
You can learn more about the Mississippi Alliance to End Suicide here and the Mississippi Chapter of the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention here. This is information about the Mississippi Department of Mental Health’s Shatter the Silence campaign.
