The violence that has escalated in Israel and around the world over the past three months is gut-wrenching and terrifying. Everything we do at Families as Allies flows from our first core value, “We welcome all families without judgment or blame.” We condemn both antisemitism and islamophobia. Every family who wants to be a part of Families as Allies is welcome. We will stand with you.
As adults, we are overwhelmed trying to understand the violence, perhaps because it is not understandable. Can you imagine how much harder it must be for our children?
We at Families as Allies strive to share resources with you that help you support your children. We also strive to share resources that experts vet. This week, we call your attention to the National Child Traumatic Stress Network fact sheet, “How to Talk to Your Children About War.” The NCTSN says this sheet “offers information for caregivers on how to talk to children about war. This fact sheet includes the potential impact and considerations when talking to children about war, how to start the conversation, understanding media coverage, and how to foster resiliency.”
We also know that parents are experts on their children. We share these two articles about how parents of different backgrounds talk to their children about Israel, Hamas, and Gaza, not because we endorse any particular viewpoint but because we know parents can always learn from each other.
