We were delighted that Jasmine Mclaurin, a bachelor’s-level social work student at the University of Michigan-Flint, completed her internship with us this past semester.
While with us, Jasmine supported families with school issues, researched local resources and delved into policy and legislation. She even joined us for virtual congressional visits to share with federal policymakers and their staff how we support families of children with special health care needs through our Family-to-Family Health Information Center grant. Jasmine approached all she did with an open mind and kind heart.
Many of you know that we have a tradition of asking interns, if they want, to share with us on their last day what they learned from their time at Families as Allies.
Here is what Jasmine shared:
“Working with the Families As Allies organization has been a remarkable, incredible experience. I was given valuable knowledge and insight in providing and supporting families. Having a passion for social work has a major impact in supporting/interning for this organization. It has been great even with the remarkable support that I have received with each partner here at this organization. I learned something new and exciting each day with my time being here. Being a part of the great organization has provided me with the multiple skills to take with me moving forward in my education and career path. Thank you for taking me under your wing and giving me the tools and concepts to become a great social worker.”
We wish Jasmine the very best and are looking forward to the chance to continue to work with her.
